Inside the Golden Age Blend: Flax, Sesame, Watermelon and Poppy

August 24, 2026

What the Golden Age Blend is built for

Appetite, digestion and nutritional needs can change in later life. Many older adults eat less overall yet still need plenty of protein, calcium, fibre and healthy fats, which makes nutrient-dense foods valuable.

The Golden Age Blend is a gentle, flavourful shake that uses four seeds with long traditions in kitchens around the world.

What each seed brings

Flax: Flax is one of the best-known plant sources of ALA and lignans, and it adds gentle, nutty fibre. In powder form its nutrients are easier to reach than in whole seeds, which is one reason powders are so handy.

Sesame: Sesame seeds contribute calcium, copper, magnesium and lignans such as sesamin. Ground sesame has the rich, toasty flavour familiar from tahini, which pairs well with dates, banana and cocoa.

Watermelon: Watermelon seed is an old snack in parts of Africa, Asia and the Middle East. Ground, it adds plant protein, magnesium, zinc and iron, and it blends invisibly into a shake.

Poppy: Poppy seeds are tiny, nutty seeds long used in baking across Europe, South Asia and the Middle East. They provide calcium, manganese, a little fibre and unsaturated fats.

Sesame and poppy seeds are valued sources of calcium, flax provides omega-3 and fibre, and watermelon seeds offer protein, magnesium and zinc. Together they give a small serving a lot of nutritional density.

Who it suits

It suits older adults who want an easy-to-drink option between meals, and also anyone who finds large meals tiring. A smooth shake can be easier to manage than whole seeds or nuts for those with dental or chewing difficulties.

When to drink it

Mid-morning or mid-afternoon, between meals, works well. Some people have it with breakfast to boost nutrients. Sit down and take it slowly.

For older adults, convenience matters. Family members or carers can arrange ordering, and the shake can be taken slowly, seated, in small sips. If appetite is low, a Small size is a gentle start, and any ongoing weight loss or appetite change deserves a conversation with a doctor.

How to customise it

Banana, pear or papaya give a soft, easy texture. A milk or fortified plant drink adds calcium and vitamin D if the product contains it. Warm spices such as cinnamon are a nice touch. A Small 12 oz is often enough for a gentle snack, and sharing a larger size between two people is another way to enjoy it. Ask for a thinner texture if thick shakes are difficult to swallow. Every Naturalition shake comes in Small 12 oz, Medium 16 oz or Large 20 oz, with a free choice of liquid, sweetener and one fruit.

Who should check with a doctor first

Speak with your doctor or pharmacist before regular use if you take multiple medicines, especially blood thinners, blood-pressure or diabetes medication, or have kidney disease or swallowing difficulty. Poppy seeds can occasionally affect drug-screening results, and sesame is a notable allergen.
