Inside the Daily Digest: Flax, Basil and Chia

August 25, 2026

What the Daily Digest is built for

Digestive comfort is mostly about fibre, fluids and routine. Daily Digest was designed around those three things, using seeds that soak up liquid and add soft bulk to a shake.

It is the simplest of the fibre-forward blends and a good gateway for people who are curious about seeds but do not want a long ingredient list.

What each seed brings

Flax: Ground flaxseed is a traditional source of ALA omega-3 fats, soluble fibre and lignans, plant compounds studied for their antioxidant activity. Grinding matters, because whole flax seeds often pass through the body undigested.

Basil: Basil seeds are a long-standing ingredient in refreshing drinks such as falooda. They form a soft gel in liquid and contribute fibre, which is why they feature in blends aimed at digestive comfort.

Chia: Chia seeds soak up many times their weight in liquid and form a gel, which thickens a shake naturally. Nutritionally they contribute fibre, a plant omega-3 fat called ALA, and minerals such as calcium and magnesium.

Chia and basil seeds are both gel-formers, while ground flax contributes soluble and insoluble fibre. All three provide small amounts of plant omega-3 as well. Together they make a shake with a smooth, almost pudding-like body.

Who it suits

It suits people who want to increase their fibre intake gradually, those who like cooling drinks, and anyone who enjoys a gentle flavour. People who travel and find their routine disrupted may find it a familiar anchor.

When to drink it

Morning is the classic choice, but an evening version works too. Drink plenty of water throughout the day because fibre needs fluid to do its job.

Increase fibre gradually and keep a steady pattern. A Small shake for a week, followed by a Medium if you are comfortable, is a gentle ramp. Pair it with movement, such as a short walk after meals, which many people find helps digestion feel more comfortable.

How to customise it

Papaya, pineapple, pear and banana are traditional companions. Coconut water or plain water as the liquid keeps it fresh. Limit sweetener, and begin with the Small size if fibre is new to you. The Small 12 oz is a sensible starting point, and the Medium 16 oz suits those already comfortable with fibre. Because the gel-forming seeds keep absorbing liquid, asking for a little extra liquid can keep the texture drinkable. Every Naturalition shake comes in Small 12 oz, Medium 16 oz or Large 20 oz, with a free choice of liquid, sweetener and one fruit.

Who should check with a doctor first

Ask your doctor first if you have irritable bowel syndrome, Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis, a history of obstruction, trouble swallowing, or take medicines where timing matters. Increase fibre slowly to avoid bloating.
